  • Editorial: Kerry should debate O’Reilly

August 13, 2008 — It has been three weeks since Sen. John Kerry’s primary opponent, Gloucester attorney Ed O’Reilly, challenged the state’s junior senator to some debates before the Sept. 16 Democratic primary. Shockingly — or not so, considering Kerry — the silence from his camp about agreeing to the challenge has been deafening.read more >>

O'Reilly has come from virtually nowhere in a year's time to become the Democratic darling of the common man. O'Reilly is one of us. He's had a real job, several in fact. In a letter sent to Kerry, O'Reilly asked for 23 debates — a combination of public forums and television appearances — between now and the Sept. 16 primary. No schedule has been established, and with the primary closing in, O'Reilly wants to get moving.
