August 21, 2008 — Edward J. O'Reilly knows he is in need of name recognition, but he feels his grassroots campaign to oust longtime U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry has gained momentum.
"I don't think there's any emotion behind John Kerry," O'Reilly said during an editorial board meeting Wednesday at The Republican.
O'Reilly, 55, of Gloucester, who spent 25 years as a trial lawyer and gave up his practice to seek a seat in Congress, is challenging the Massachusetts Democrat in the Sept. 16 party primary. Kerry, 64, who was elected in 1984, has not had a primary challenger since he became a senator.
"I'm not afraid to say what I believe in. I'm a fighter, and I'm a worker," O'Reilly said.
