August 22, 2008 — Give the man his due
Sen. John Kerry is too dismissive of his Democratic primary opponent, Ed O'Reilly. He won't agree to a debate with the Gloucester attorney and former firefighter.
Here's what we know: O'Reilly is smart, affable and good on his feet. He's got some fresh takes on longstanding issues. He's a salt-of-the-earth working-class Democrat despite piling up a little money in the lawyer biz. He doesn't have long political coattails, but he could do the job.
We know this because O'Reilly has taken the trouble to drive around the state and meet people like the Times editorial board.
Senator, take the trouble to explain to Massachusetts voters why you think you deserve another six years. Take the time to show Ed O'Reilly a little respect.
